Porteurs de misère (Porters of Misery)
(France, 2000, 13’)
Director: Philippe Lespinasse
Himalayan climbing heroes have been called "conquistadors of the
useless" because what they do is both futile and magnificent. But
each day, further down the mountains, anti-heroes laden like mules
carry tons of food and equipment in order to resupply remote
villages; these are the "carriers of the useful" for the
conquistadors of the useless!

Vertical Frontier
(USA, 2002, 91’) Canadian Premiere
Director/Producer: Kristi Denton Cohen
(In person)
From John Muir in the 1860s to the super-athletes of today,
Vertical Frontier tells the saga of the free-spirited climbers who
were inspired by the legendary big walls of Yosemite. This
comprehensive history of Yosemite climbing includes footage from
classics such as El Capitan and interviews with dozens of Yosemite
personalities such as Long, Bridwell, Steck, Hill, Croft, Robbins,
Kauk, Chouinard and Potter. A formidable film - a great piece of
history.
