"Living in Calgary, I feel fortunate to be only an hour and a
half from Banff National Park. On this particular morning I was
driving along Highway 1A just outside Banff at around 6:30 a.m.
Wildlife is abundant on this road, and one has to drive with extra
care, especially at dawn and dusk. The sun was still behind the
mountain, resulting in a strong blue cast in shaded areas (Tyndall
effect), when I spotted these three whitetail deer beside the
road. I had my camera and 300-mm lens sitting ready on the seat
beside me, as I often encounter wildlife along this route. I
managed to take three quick shots before the trio disappeared into
the woods. I have seen and photographed the same trio on several
other occasions, but this is one of my favourite encounters."
