Henry Barber – "Voices of Adventure Series"
For climber Henry Barber, the 1970s were a period of
international fame brought about by his numerous climbing
accomplishments. He mastered the sport in New England, where he
found the perfect combination of technique, problem solving and
creativity to skillfully freeclimb the area’s toughest routes.
Driven by his passion for the sport, Henry was the first
American climber to go beyond the country’s borders in search of
climbing challenges; he became internationally renowned for
shocking local climbers worldwide by ascending cutting-edge
routes and establishing some of the world’s most demanding
climbs. He revolutionized world climbing standards by
continually reaching higher grades and pushing the limits of
freeclimbing possibilities.
During the Banff Mountain Book Festival, the host of the Voices of Adventure Series–Geoff Powter– spoke with rock-climbing legend Henry Barber about his many accomplishments, and the undeniable impact he has had on the world of international climbing.
Past guests of the series have included Yvon Chouinard, Charles Houston, Brad & Barbara Washburn, Royal Robbins, and George Lowe.
