In Nansen’s Footsteps

Norway, 2009, 104 minutes
Directed by Tore Rosshaug
Produced by Terje Dale

In 1895, Fridtjof Nansen and Hjalmar Johansen left the ice-bound Fram and headed for the North Pole. They miraculously arrived at Vardø the following years. On May 1, 2007, Børge Ousland and Thomas Ulrich started at the North Pole; it took them one and a half months across treacherous summer drift ice to reach Eva Liv Island, northeast of Franz Josef Land. From there they continued from one island to the other until they reached Cape Flora to the south on July 24. The film also looks back at Nansen’s expedition 111 years earlier. Contains some nudity.
