Stephen G. Evans

Steve Evans is an Ottawa-based landslide specialist for the
Geological Survey of Canada and has worked there since 1982. He
has a M.A. in Geography from the University of British Columbia, a
M.Sc. in Civil Engineering (Soil Mechanics) from Imperial College,
London and a Ph.D. in Engineering Geology from the University of
Alberta. He has published over 100 papers on subjects including
rockfall, rock avalanches, other aspects of mountain slope
stability, the geotechnical response to climate change, and the
record of damaging landslides in Canada. In 1995 he was awarded
the Canadian Geotechnical Society Prize for best paper in the
Canadian Geotechnical Journal. Steve is the senior editor of the
volume Catastrophic Landslides to be published in 2002 by
the Geological Society of America in the series Reviews in
Engineering Geology. He has over 25 years experience in
investigating landslides in the mountains of western Canada.
