Ecological and Earth Sciences in Mountain Areas: Sept. 6-10, 2002

Jens Roland

Jens Roland in Professor of Ecology at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta. He received his B.Sc. from the University of Alberta, and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia. Current research focusses on population ecology and population dynamics of insects in a spatial or landscape perspective. Projects examine both the large-scale pattern of population change, and the mechanism by which landscape alters the processes which drive those dynamics. Current projects examine: the effect of forest fragmentation on forest tent caterpillar and its natural enemies; the effect of meadow size and isolation on dispersal and dynamics of alpine butterflies in Alberta, and on butterfly populations in threatened Garry Oak meadows of Southwestern British Columbia.
