Dixon Thompson
Dixon Thompson is professor of environmental science in the faculty of environmental design and adjunct professor of sustainable development and environmental management in the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary. Since 1973 he has done research on and developed and taught graduate level courses in environmental science and environmental management, product and technology assessment and life cycle assessment, water management, and environmental chemistry and (eco)toxicology.
He was a pioneer in the development of graduate courses in environmental management that complement courses in environmental science. He has extensive international experience in Latin America and the Caribbean, and other developing countries. As a consultant, he has applied environmental management tools for resource-based industries such as Nova, PetroCanada, Alberta Energy Company, IntraWest, and BC Gas International. He is the lead author for the Commission on Environmental Cooperation’s work on EMSs for small and medium sized enterprises. He has a PhD in organic chemistry and biochemistry (Illinois 1970).
