Mountain Communities Conference 2005: Speakers

Oliver Raymond Travers

Ray Travers is a registered professional forester and specialist in forest policy analysis, forest resource planning, value based silviculture, environmental impact assessment, and community forestry. He has 39 years experience working on a wide range of forest resource issues in British Columbia and Northwest Territories, Canada.

Ray graduated from the University of British Columbia with a bachelor of science in forestry in 1966 and Oregon State University with a master of forestry in 1970. During the first 24 years of his career he worked for the forest industry on southern Vancouver Island, the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs in the Northwest Territories, and Province of British Columbia in Victoria with several land use agencies.

In 1990, Ray formed O.R. Travers Forestry Consultants Inc., and built his practice around developing, evaluating, and applying ideas and activities that improve the quality of forest resource management. Ray advocates changing the way we make decisions through holistic management concepts and principles, because of their capacity to go beyond solving problems, to producing the results we really want — such as increased wealth generation and reduced environmental impact.
