Dennis Westhoff, M.Eng., P.Eng.,
is a Senior Water Resources Engineer, with over
twenty seven years experience in rural and urban
drainage studies and development projects. Selected
relevant project experience includes:
Urban Stormwater Management Guidelines:
- Assigned as team leader for CIDA to develop
urban stormwater management guidelines for the
Republic of Indonesia
- Developed stormwater management guidelines for
the Municipal District of Rocky View No. 44
- Assisted in the production of the Bow River
Water Council publication entitled "Solutions for
Management of Urban Stormwater in the Bow River
Basin"
- Assisted in the re-write of the Stormwater
Management Guidelines for the City of Calgary
Master Drainage Plans:
- Western Headworks Main Canal Storm Study
- Elbow Valley Master Drainage Plan
- Hanson Ranch Master Drainage Plan
- Banff Master Drainage Plan
Stormwater Management Reports:
- Prepared numerous innovative drainage concepts
and designs including multi-purpose stormwater
facilities for the SAIT Expansion Project 2001,
Elbow Valley and Banff
- Prepared Stormwater Management Plans for
developments in Radium, Invermere and Windermere,
British Columbia
Best Management Practices:
- Introduced the first stormwater management
wetland BMP in the City of Calgary and has since,
incorporated eight wetland systems in residential
and commercial developments for improving
stormwater water quality.
- Developed zero impact strategies for the Elbow
Valley development and have successfully
integrated a "waterscaping" approach using an
overland flow system only (no minor system) for a
1000 acre, 800 home development on the outskirts
of the City of Calgary.
- Developed "zero discharge regional pond"
waterscaping concepts and designs for industrial
and commercial developments in and outside the
City of Calgary.
Wetlands:
- Signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with Olds
College to design and construct wetlands as part
of a Botanical Garden Complex and to develop
research programs in treatment processes by
natural wetlands in cold climates.
- Prepared wetland / wet pond design for the
Burnco Okotoks Gravel Pit
Innovation:
- Sustainable development in Rocky Ridge and
Springbank where rainfall is captured, re-cycled,
re-used and re-claimed
- Harvesting runoff for car wash facilities
- Green roofs and no ponds development concepts
in commercial districts
- Rainwater, a supply for non-drinking use at
commercial developments in the outskirts of the
City of Calgary
