Ryan Bavin: November Moon

“I grew up on the shores of Lake Windermere in the Columbia Valley. Summers were spent in the lake, winters on the lake, and spring and fall around the lake! I had been dreaming of taking this photograph for a very long time. Many factors contributed to not fulfilling my vision; poor weather, changing moon, and sun positioning to name a few. Then one day in late fall I realized while I was driving home that the moment I was waiting for may be happening! I drove directly to the spot just as the moon was rising over Chisel Peak and the last of the sun was lighting up the fresh early season snow blanketing the Stanford Range. All of this reflected in the ripples of the almost frozen lake. I had but a few moments to set up my camera and get a shot before the light quickly faded.”

Ryan Bavin was born and raised in the Columbia Valley of southeastern British Columbia. From a young age Ryan was drawn to photography. He was introduced to the magic of the darkroom by his grandfather, Hal Bavin, who was a professional photographer. His parents gave him his first camera for his twelfth birthday. Since then he has been absorbed in the process of creating photographs, from exposure to print. Ryan makes a living as an artist, mostly in the medium of glass. This is his 20th year of blowing glass with his father Pat. Growing up in the Canadian Rocky Mountains has been a constant source of inspiration.
