I am originally a Southern Belle from North Carolina who moved to Aspen, Colorado, a couple of weeks after graduation from college for a summer. Twenty-seven years later I’m still here and am loving it more than ever. I am a 23-year member of the Snowmass Ski Patrol, where my black lab, Max, also works as an avalanche rescue dog.

In 1996, I became the first American woman to climb three 8000-metre peaks (Everest, Cho Oyu, and the first American woman to climb Gasherbrum II). I still rock and ice climb on a regular basis, but have been sidetracked at home the last few years (and haven’t really been back to the Greater Ranges). That is about to change!

I was on the board of the Access Fund for seven years and am currently enjoying being on the board of the American Alpine Club. The latter is meeting in Banff to celebrate with our ACC friends their centennial.
